ForEarth Day 2023 I thought it would be a great opportunity for me to tell you about the steps I am taking to improve sustainability at Alice's Wonders.
I'd also love to show you some of the beautiful items I stock from recycled and sustainable material, including beautiful scarves, fund and awareness raising bracelets and zero waste brass and acetate necklaces.
A key change I made last year was to move (almost) 100% into recylable packaging. All orders are sent in minimal tissue paper and cardboard boxes or envelopes made from 70-100% recycled materials.
Any tape used is paper and can be recycled along with the rest of the packaging. The tags, postcard and packing note are all from recycled materials too! I'm trying hard, but I'm not perfect; still struggling with the stickers used to seal packaging, the strings for the tags and the postage labels.
My second area of improvement is increasing my range of products from socially conscious, sustainable suppliers using recycled materials and reducing waste. Read on for more about just a few of these fantastic products and shop the whole edit here>>
Clean Up with World Finds
Made from recycled materials by women artisans in India, the Clean Up bracelet raises funds to support projects removing plastics from the Ocean. WorldFinds, the Fair Trade supplier of these beautiful bracelets, donates 15% of sales of these bracelets to The Ocean Conservancy. Donations are made based on how many they purchase from our artisans, not product sales.
Other cause bracelets raise funds for alternative causes including the Plant bracelet, supporting projects to help restore forests.
It's hardly believable; they're so soft and easy to wear. But it's true, all the scarves in the Eco Style collection are made from Repreve® fabric, the world’s leading brand of recycled performance fibre. In a beautiful range of nature inspired patterns and colours. these super soft scarves are stylish and sustainable.
The small but perfectly formed collection of beautiful jewellery from my newest supplier Made by Pivot has beencrafted from donated waste acetate from spectacle-maker, Cubitts.
Recycled into unique & beautiful pieces for everyday wear, including this stunning Evolve necklace. Also in the collection are recycled brass and acetate earrings. All made by people experiencing homelessness, supporting them with work and new skills.
