Make your summer dress work in autumn

It's undeniable.  Autumn is here.  But perhaps you're not ready yet to pack those summer dresses away just yet.

Follow my top tips for styling them into the start of the new season.

Cathy Padian at Alice's Wonders

1️⃣  Add trainers or boots, a dark belt and a denim or leather jacket.

2️⃣  Layer up with a mid-weight scarf.  Hold fire on the blankets for now.

3️⃣  Use a dark toned leather bag to further reference an autumnal vibe.

Layer up

Layering a mid-weight scarf in a tonal shade, like this classic camel leopard print scarf, not only provides warmth and adds new season hues; it covers up give-away summer necklines - the dress in the main picture has a deep V which doesn't work so well in autumn.

Stick to the tonal theme

With a darker leather bag.  Choosing a structured or formal shape can be a great way to indicate you're ready for a new season, dressier look.

These tote backpacks are crafted from a gorgeous supple leather and are incredibly versatile too.  Carry as a tote, a shoulder bag or - my favourite way - as a stylish and practical backpack using the rear adjustable straps.
